Yin Yoga for the Heart
This last year has been an emotional rollercoaster for so many of us and our hearts may be in need for some additional support, and an opportunity to feel, process and integrate our emotional responses to the changes in our lives.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced practice focused on postures that help release tension deep in the connective tissue and joints. Most Yin Yoga postures are practiced sitting or laying on the floor and are held for 3 – 5 minutes at a time, inviting a sense of relaxation and surrender. The quiet nature of these poses also supports reflection and inquiry that often leads to a deeply transformative experience.
In this workshop we’ll focus primarily on the chest and shoulder area to help balance the flow of chi (energy) along the heart meridian (energetic pathway). In chinese medicine each organ not only has a physical function and purpose, but also an energetic and emotional constitution.
Reestablishing balance along this important meridian allows us to process our emotions more easily and return to the innate qualities of our hearts: joy, compassion, optimism, laughter and love!
Important note: Yin Yoga does not require any physical strength, but has a deep stretching focus on the connective tissue. Variations will be offered to meet everyones needs, but if you are recovering from an injury or recent surgery please consult with your doctor first.
